Guest
parking at right leads into a side garden of
old plant types used in plantation homes. The
walk accesses the front porch from the side
as the planting screens and frames the front
of this home.
|
This
garden home allows for a more closed-in courtyard
feel. The front guest parking is separated
by a brick wall and ornate iron gate which
leads through the garden planting.

Privacy
is a common concern for pool areas. In this
design the pool area is screened with several
layers of plant materials and small flowering
trees. At the rear of the pool is a spa and
wooden deck with a gazebo for a cool space
and a retreat from the sun.
|
Spaces
leading to spaces gives the feeling of depth
and diversity in this garden. The view from
the bay window of this home looks upon the
gazebo at upper left and a planting along the
rear property & fenceline for a more closed
in intimate planting affect.
|
One
outdoor room leads to another as the pool area
is closed off from the larger circular perennial
garden at top. The stepping stone walk leads
to a pond shared by several property owners.
The space at right has much shade from existing
trees and a more naturalistic planting scheme.
|
Having
a destination in a garden, like the one at
top, is a very important aspect. The person
experiencing the space should feel that they
are being led from one outdoor area to another.
|
The
dashed line inside the property line is a proposed
picket fence. This encloses the front garden
and reclaims the space as useful to experience
and semiprivate.
